Riyadh To Host The First International Association For Energy Economics Conference To Be Held In The Middle East

RIYADH: The King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) and the Saudi Association for Energy Economics (SAEE) are hosting the 44th International Conference of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) at KAPSARC, Riyadh on February 4-9, 2023.

The conference will bring together experts and academics from the international energy community to discuss traditional and renewable energy, environmental challenges, and energy market stability. Participants will address seven critical topics under the theme “Pathways to a clean, stable, and sustainable energy future.” These include the economy and energy mix diversification; development and climate change; energy changes and their courses; investment and financing in the energy sector; transport and technology; industrial efficiency and competitiveness; and changes in the energy markets, including security of supply.

The conference organizers are currently inviting all interested academics to submit scientific papers on energy, economic growth, and climate change via the conference’s website by September 9 iaee2023.saudi-aee.sa/abstract-submission/.

Fahad Al Ajlan, President of KAPSARC, spoke about the conference: “The conference will emphasize the interdependence of a clean, stable, and long-term energy path. It will be the first time the IAEE organizes its annual conference in the Middle East and North Africa region – a region that has produced more than 40% of the world’s oil and gas over the past two decades.”

The conference comes after COVID-19, the Ukrainian crisis, and global reactions to climate change, all of which have underlined the importance of energy in global sustainability, security, and well-being, according to SAEE Chairman Dr. Majid Al Moneef. The conference’s plenaries and research papers will cover issues in the global and MENA energy landscapes.

The IAEE was established in 1977 to facilitate an understanding of energy economics and its practical applications. The organization holds five conferences each year, attracting more than 500 people, including government officials, private sector executives, thought leaders, academics, among others. The 43rd IAEE Annual Conference will be held in Tokyo, Japan, from July 31-August 4, 2022.

KAPSARC is an advisory think tank with a focus on global energy economics and sustainability, providing consulting services to the Saudi energy sector. The Center aims to advance Saudi Arabia’s energy sector and inform international policies through evidence-based advice and applied research. In the 2020 Global Go-To Think Tank Index, KAPSARC ranked 12th out of 60 research centers in the Energy and Resource Policy Think Tank category and 25th out of 101 in the Top Think Tanks in the MENA region.

The SAEE is a non-profit civil society that aims to promote energy economics in the Kingdom by holding events and enhancing dialogue and discussion around the energy sector’s challenges and related industries.
